Tuesday 11:00 – Tim Bell

The Linux platform provides enormous benefits compared with other operating systems when deployed in a school lab: stability, ease of maintenance, as well as arguably a better educational experience.
This paper begins by making the case for Linux teaching labs, from technical, educational and financial points of view. After a quick description of how the Linux labs work at Trinity, details of how to install a net-booting lab are given, complete with war stories from the lab which was installed on 15 and 16 January 2003.
