CHANGED! Our experiences teaching a group of young people basic computing skills, them gaining their ICDL certification and Train Small Groups certification. Then a sub-group learnt how to Design a web site and built it. |
|
As a qualified and experienced Trainer Ian is active within SNNN and
local projects. He has actively participated in the Salisbury North
Youth IT Project teaching the participants about Web Site Design. The
two courses have culminated with a web site designed and built by the
participants; Youth IT Project web site and the web site for SNNN.
Several of the participants have formed into the SNNN Web Site Team
and have made themselves available to interested community groups and
local businesses that wish to have a web site built for them.
Ian is about to start volunteer work in a community project to bring ICDL training to the 6 neighbourhood houses in the City of Salisbury. The Commonwealth Department of Family and Community Services provided generous funding through their Family and Community Network Initiatives to enable this project to be successful. | |

Ian is 50-something and since 1985 has lived in Salisbury North with
his wife Margaret and 3 children, Malcolm, Sara and Ashley.
Ian started with Salisbury North Neighbourhood Network (SNNN) in January 2000 and has looked after the Information Technology part of the project since then. If it is to do with the computers Ian has probably had a hand in it. Ian has represented SNNN at many local, regions and state conferences and is part of the team that provides presentations to community groups such as the Lions. He also represents SNNN on the CommunIT project which is to help community organisations around South Australia take the best advantages from IT. Ian is also involved with Open source software - he is trying to get more people aware of the benefits of alternative software. He is a member of the Linux SA group which is an unstructured gathering of Linux enthusiasts with mailing list members from all over South Australia as well as folks from Australia and overseas. From this group has started the Community Software Distribution Network (CSDN). This group distributes copies of the free software to anybody who wishes to try it out. Ian is a distributor for the Northern suburbs of Adelaide Ian is an active Social Entrepreneur and involved with the Social Entrepreneurs Network, an Australia/New Zealand group building on the strengths of communities. "Social Entrepreneurs Network is a mutual learning and support network for people who are thinking and acting entrepreneurially in strengthening communities and creating wealth for all, especially those who are disadvantaged.". Ian is presently developing a concept called Northern Neighbourhood Networks (NNN) which is a proposal to bring communities together through the transmission of the Internet over wireless. This project will hopefully be accepted for funding by the Federal Government's Sustainable Regions program. |
