Today's highlight would have to be the round table at the end. Pia Smith spoke up early up about Linux Australia's current condition and plans, and the roundtable swung to focus around what Linux Australia could and should be, what other organisations should be involved, and we "walked" around the room, asking each participant what (s)he would do with Linux Australia if they were dictating the terms. Very few people weren't deeply interested, very few weren't willing to provide at least some input.
We've accumulated a list of suggestions, wants and needs, will found a SIG mailing list and boil that down to an action plan over the coming few weeks, and publish at least a link to that on this website. If you're interested in becoming a part of this, email me to be kept up to date. We're thinking of using the acronym ALLIES - Australian Linux Lobby In Education Services - and complementing rather than replacing the current LIAS list.
The presentations today were all of high quality, including another tag-team event from Canberra, an outstandingly Australian show from Kim, and another winner from Tim Bell, this time on technical aspects.
A common theme is exclamation over “when will Linux be ready for the desktop? Today! Our entire school basically runs on it!”.
